Vision of Upper Perk Robotics:
With a vision toward exciting 3rd through 12th graders in the greater Upper Perkiomen Valley about the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), we partner with area schools and community groups to enhance student participation in challenging age-appropriate STEM and robotics competitive programs as a means to fuel a desire for education while exposing students to 21st Century technologies and skills that can lead to dynamic and rewarding futures.
Our concept of “Tachquiwi” (pronounced “taacch-wee” and meaning “together” in the Lenape language) pays tribute to the original settlers of the Upper Perkiomen Valley and drives our approach to design and learning through iterations and collective effort. While our student participants strive to excel in competition while working with mentors and coaches, teamwork and sportsmanship remain cornerstone principles in every student program and event we support.
Upper Perk Robotics has two divisions of student participation. VEX IQ is a program designed for boys and girls in grades 3-8. Students design and build robots with plastic "erector" type pieces and drive their robots via a controller and radio contact. VEX EDR is a program designed for boys and girls in grades 8-12. Students design and build robots with metal construction materials. This level is more challenging and more competitive!
